Suffering with teen mental health issues can seem lonely. As a teen it’s hard to believe that anyone understands what you are going through. Celebrities are often presented to us as perfect beings who never struggling with basic or common life issues. They embody the entire package of beauty, brains, and talent. While your dream might be to switch places with them, many celebrities may not be as different from you as you would think. A stigma on talking about mental health conditions is still evident in today’s society. Many people feel ashamed about their mental illness and try to keep it a secret. These celebrities have opened up about their past experiences to make a change on the opinion of mental health.

Hayden Panettiere

Hayden is a Nashville actress who recently announced that she will be taking time off from her acting career to go to rehab for her postpartum depression. She states that has chosen to take time to reflect on her health and life, rather than staying stuck due to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Hayden believes that teen mental health issues is something that needs to be discussed. Teens should understand that they are suffering through it alone.

Justin Bieber

The Biebs recently came out about how he has been suffering from depression. He states that the intensity of his schedule can be a struggle. He often feels isolated due to the immense amount of paparazzi and fans constantly around him. He states that when you can’t go anywhere or do anything alone if can often make you depressed.

Lena Dunham

Lena is an actress, writer, director, and producer who suffers from anxiety. She uses exercise to help with her anxiety. She states that it took her 16 years of being on medication to finally take peoples advice to start exercise to cope with anxiety.

Mental illness doesn’t have to define you as a person. It doesn’t have to take over your life. You shouldn’t be ashamed to ask for help. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but strength. It shows a willingness to fight for your well-being.
